Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the photo calorie scan?
It's a good estimate, not a food scale. The AI reads the photo to identify the foods and guess portion sizes, so it's close enough for daily logging and tracking trends, but it can't see hidden oil or weigh things exactly. That's why you can edit any number before you log it. If you're peaking for a show or have clinical needs, weigh your food instead.
Is Food Scan free?
Yes. Food Scan is free — you just need a free account (no card), and you get 10 photo scans a day at no cost. Typing a food's name to get its macros is free too.
Can I log food without taking a photo?
Yes. Type the food's name and FORMA fills in the estimated calories and macros, so you can log a meal in a couple of seconds when a photo isn't practical.
What is the meal score?
It's a rating out of 10 of how well a meal fits the goal you set — cutting, maintaining or bulking. Roughly, 8 to 10 means the meal strongly supports your goal, 4 to 7 is decent but has a real drawback, and 1 to 3 works against it. It judges the meal's calories and macro balance against your targets, so a high-protein, goal-appropriate plate scores higher than an off-plan one.
Calorie and macro figures are AI estimates for general tracking, not exact measurements or medical or nutritional advice. For medical or clinical needs, check with a registered dietitian or doctor.
